The Kimono Jacket

Dressed up or down the versatile kimono jacket remains an important addition to every wardrobe thanks to the current trend for oriental influences. Make your own stunning version in a lightweight cotton fabric to wear as a perfect layer over jeans, shorts, floaty trousers, cropped tops and t-shirt dresses.

This workshop is suitable for a BEGINNERS+ skill level; suited to those who know their way around a sewing machine and have already made a few clothing projects. It's also the perfect workshop for mothers and older daughters to join in together as its such an ageless style! Choose between three lengths - SHORT; top hip length (as shown in the images above left), CLASSIC; mid thigh length or LONG; mid-calf length (above right).

You will learn how to work with a lighter weight fabric (100% cotton lawn, linen, voile or cotton/viscose are recommended, please avoid man-made fabrics such as polyester) as you prepare, cut and machine stitch your garment in your chosen size and length, neaten seams using an over-locker, make facings and pick up lots of tips to help you finish your garment to a professional standard.

Fabric length requirements are given on booking.  Patterns are available in teen/adult sizes: choose from the following sizes: XS/size 6,  S/size 8, M/size 10,  L/size 12 and XL/size 14

All equipment and threads are provided, however you are welcome to bring your own machine if you have one (it must be in good working order and you will need to be able to thread it up by yourself). Refreshments are provided but please bring a packed lunch, weather permitting we'll be picnicking in the garden.
