THE FREESTYLE YOUNG DRESSMAKERS CLUB

Older children, interested in fashion and keen to make  their own clothes, will love our 'Freestyle Young Dressmakers' Club which focuses on making a garment or accessory using either one of FASHIONSKOOL's own exclusive workshop project patterns, or, for those with a little more sewing experience, a commercially produced pattern. Creative alterations and customisation of clothes from one's own wardrobe using a variety of textile techniques are also positively encouraged here!

Essentially you will already be confident to use and thread up a sewing machine having made at least one beginners+ level clothing project in a FASHIONSKOOL workshop. Whilst working at your own pace you will be carefully guided through  laying and cutting out fabric in your required size, preparing your garment for sewing before stitching on a sewing machine and have the opportunity to learn to use an over locker to finish the garment to a good standard.

You'll build a knowledge of new techniques such as inserting zips, attaching interfacing, making pockets, and buttonholes etc, whilst developing your sewing skills. This dressmaking club has a lovely, friendly atmosphere and aims to provide you with the confidence and skills to successfully tackle future sewing projects independently from home.

If you'd like to make one of FASHIONSKOOL's projects there are a range of skill-appropriate styles available to choose from and these, along with fabric recommendations, can be discussed in advance.

Alternatively, those who are ready to move on and use a commercial pattern, guidance with pattern and style suggestions along with information on sizing, fabric types and recommended suppliers are shared before you head off to make your pattern and fabric purchase.

For all projects will need to provide your own fabric (for first-timers 100% cotton woven fabric is recommended) along with any trims.

Equipment and basic haberdashery and light refreshments are all provided.
