THE TIERED SKIRT
FASHIONSKOOL's beautiful tiered, skirt can be made in either maxi or above-the-knee length. It not only works perfectly for high and late summer, it will continue to look great well into the autumn too. Both feminine and bold, this skirt takes on a different appeal in each fabric or print it's constructed in, so has seemingly endless possibilities and will hopefully be loved, worn and re-used for many years to come.
This workshop is ideal for those who already know how to use a sewing machine, having completed at least one 'Beginners level' and one 'Beginners+ level' project and wish to further develop their machine-sewing skills. This time you're learning how to gather and make frills.
You’ll learn how to prepare, pin and cut your fabric (using an exclusive FASHIONSKOOL paper pattern in your chosen size) how to finish seams neatly, turn hems, gather a frilled skirt layer onto a yoke and turn an elasticated waist casing.
Choose from the following sizes and state your size and length requirement (short or long) when booking so that your pattern can be prepared for you:
Age 9-10, 11-12, or teens sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12
Approximate finished skirt lengths (i.e., teen's size 4) : maxi = 33"/85cm and short = 19"/48cm, can be adjusted to personal preference
For this workshop you will need to provide your own cotton woven fabric; lengths given on booking.
Suggested fabric: medium dress-weight 100% cotton woven plains or prints (1 or 2 directional prints) and seersucker, chambray or linen. Please avoid using obvious checks or horizontal stripes which will need matching, or any slippery fabric types (polyester, satins etc).
All equipment, threads, elastic and light refreshments are included. Please bring a packed lunch and slippers to wear.
