The Biker-style Jacket

The biker-style jacket has become a classic style and can be found in every serious fashionista's wardrobe. FASHIONSKOOL is excited to offer a beautiful boxy version with an exposed zip to make for yourself in a day! It's an ideal sewing project for those who already have some good clothes-making skills, are regular stitchers and, having attended several clothing workshops previously, are ready to step up to an intermediate + level challenge.

You will need to provide your own fabric and zip for this project (materials requirements will be given when your booking is confirmed); recommended fabrics are medium weight woven cottons: cotton drill, cotton sateen, needlecord or denim (9oz) are ideal and fabrics with a little stretch also work really well - prints or plain (jackets shown here are in stretch denim (above and below), printed cotton drill (below centre) and printed stretch cotton-sateen (below right).

You’ll be shown how to prepare, pin and cut out your fabric before piecing together your jacket using an exclusive FASHIONSKOOL paper pattern provided in your chosen size. You’ll learn how to join the pieces together by stitching them on a sewing machine, neaten the seams using an over locker, attach interfacing, set in sleeves, make a collar and facings and attach an exposed open-ended zip.

Choose from the following girl's sizes:

ages: 11-12 yrs, 13-14 yrs or 15-16 yrs stating your size when booking so that a pattern can be prepared for you.

Equipment, basic haberdashery and light refreshments are included but please bring slippers/soft indoor shoes and a packed lunch. Feel free to bring your own sewing machine if you are lucky enough to have one, please ensure it is in good working order and you are able to thread it yourself.

Level: Intermediate +/ Year 7+
